Both will thin out to a 20 weight when at operating temps. Owner had a brand new Tundra probably with the 57l and she was a saleswoman for some oil additive company. Due to the higher tolerance of modern engine maybe Toyota do have a point at specing a 0w oil for cold winter temps.

Switching to 5W20 shouldnt hurt your mileage in any way that you would notice. 0w-20 works just fine 5w-20 down to -20 degrees 5w-30 works good just it will. 2008 Toyota Corolla LE 5-speed.
In your manual it also says conventional can he used. So they take the easier route of that the cheapest 0w20 is better than the cheapest 5w20. Conventional oils cant meet the SAE 0W spec 5W oils may be either conventional or synthetic.
